Central Institute of Behavioral Sciences has developed various Projects for Child development (MANTHAN) Academic development (DISHA), Teacher skill enhancement program, (Gurutva), Learning Disability (SOAHM), Sport psychology (Manolaksh) and School Mental Health Program. Projects and Services have been developed to defend the right of people with mental illness and for supporting the applications of ethical principles in psychiatric services.


This project is for children below 13 years. Under Manthan detailed screening of parents and child is done in the institute for managing problems between parents and children. This project is running successfully for the last 16 years. It was established in 2001 and has been attended by over 4000 students. Various activities are held for these children on every third Thursday at 5pm for children and every 4th Saturday for parents at 7.00pm. Manthan aims to yield the most important solution which is to generate a mentally healthy and prosperous generation ahead. Monthly bulletin having meeting details and articles related to parent and child is provided along with educational material.


DISHA project is for children above the age of 13 years. Complete screening of parents and child is done in the institute. CIBS is running this project successfully for the last 16 years. Various activities are held for these children on every 2nd Saturday at 6pm and every 4th Saturday for parents at 7.00pm in CIBS. Every month educational material is also provided to them. DISHA project aims to develop self motivation, improve mind concentration, shape memory retention power, make education stress free, impart success orientation attitude and stimulate creative thinking. The project helps to give direction towards successful career and life and guides children to acquire higher quality of life under academic stress, career, and challenges of life.

SOAHM (Scholastic Operations for Academically Handicapped and Mentorship)

SOAHM project is designed for children with the problem of Learning Disability, scholastic backwardness and poor academic record. In this project children with these problems are identified, psychometric tests are applied and Individualized Education Program (IEP) & Remedial Education modules are specially designed for these children .CIBS also helps them in getting certification and benefits from the Education Board. Every month on the last Thursday at 5.00 pm parents meeting is held in the Institute.

School Mental Health Program

Central Institute of Behavioral Sciences has undertaken the task of designing and implementing modules which address the common and specific problems of children and adolescents. School is an ideal clinic for mental health program and teachers are the best therapists for it’s prevention in collaboration with parent’s education. School Mental Health program is a comprehensive activity for students, parents and teachers that can identify issues of poor performance and correlate it with mental disorders or disease as a case.


For sport person regarding mental fitness for higher performance Transformed 3 local sportsmen into National Champions. Counseled Indian Cricket Team in 2003.


Bereavement and grief management for care-taker and patients with end of life stage diseases like cancer. CIBS was part of First Renal Transplant of Central India.


A comprehensive program for Quality of life in patients with heart diseases, diabetes, and other psycho-somatic illnesses.


For sex education, couple therapy, pregnancy education and one year infant care, in collaboration with the Family court under Ministry of Law. Reached 312 couples and prevented 122 divorces.


For Teachers to develop special skills of handling class room problems. 460 Teachers have been trained for self-management in School Mental Health Program.

Research & Development

Central Institute of Behavioural Sciences has been a part of International clinical drug trials. Multinational companies like Glaxo Smith Kline, Sanofi Aventis etc. have approved our site for USFDA approved drug trials. These are mainly phase III trials on Dementia, Primary insomnia, Schizophrenia were conducted by the Institute with interesting results.

Life Skill Education Program

WHO defines life skills as “abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday Iife”. Life skills are a group of psychosocial competencies and interpersonal skills that help people make informed decisions, communicate effectively and develop coping and self management skills to lead a healthy and productive life. These skills are inter-related and reinforce each other. Together, they are responsible for our psycho-social competence, building our self esteem and self efficacy to nurture holistic development.The Ten core Life Skills as laid down by WHO are:

7. Effective communication
8. Interpersonal relationship
9. Coping with stress
10. Coping with emotion

-Life Skill Education for teachers and students of Madan Gopal Agarwal High School ,Dhiran Kanya Vidyalaya, and Saraswati Vidyalaya in Nagpur.

-Life Skill Education Camp for adolescents and parents at Central Institute of Behavioural Sciences in Nagpur.

-Life Skills Education for new officers, Emotional Intelligence and Stress Management for National Academy OF Defence Production, Ambazari, Nagpur.
